Open Top Option!

·

Yeah, yeah, yeah I know the previous post also had a Ferrari in it, but an interesting 360 came up for sale on BringATrailer, so we’re doing another one!

This 2002 Ferrari 360 Coupe has an interesting, and supremely rare option: A sunroof!

Well, it’s not quite a sunroof. At least, not of the sliding glass variety. It’s more like a sun…….hatch. It’s a metal piece that is locked into place with a latch, and is stowable behind the seats. It’s like someone at the Ferrari factory took a Sawzall to a coupe’s roof.

So, why is this such a big deal? Because by enthusiasts’ estimates, only about 24 of these came to North Americaland, and about half were of the coveted gated three pedal manual type.

Also, unlike the previous F355, Ferrari never made a dedicated 360 GTS with a targa style removable roof panel, so this is as close as you get. Honestly, I think it’s pretty damn cool.

This particular car is finished in the fetching Grigio Titanio, a gray that shifts from dark to light depending on the sun and angle. The interior is largely black, with aluminum highlights and red inserts and piping on the beautiful Daytona style seats.

The seller is the appropriately named UnCommonMotorCars, and they are definitely living up to their handle. Kudos to them for the plethora of pictures highlighting all the ins and outs of this….uncommon…beast. Documentation going clear back to when it was first purchased and early servicing are included.

Now for the best part: price! This will be a fun one, I think.

The previous Sunroof car that sold on BaT hammered at $65,000 back in September 2020. That is an outstanding price for a 360 in general, let alone one of these rare beasts.

Interestingly, that car was also in Grigio Titanio, albeit with a tan interior and F1 transmission. If you asked me to name a color that multiple sunroof cars were ordered in, I would never have guessed this one. My answer would have been the iconic Rosso Corsa!

Previous sales of gated coupes run from the high five figures to the $150,000 mark, with color and mileage being the main factors. Quite the gamut!

So where does this one land? Well, as of writing it’s already up to $85,000 with six days to go, so clearly it looks to crack $100,000.

I’m going to take a guess and say this reaches just a little over that six figure mark. It is a Reserve auction so hopefully whatever the number is, the bidding reaches it and the buyer goes home with an early Christmas present.

I personally would love to own this car. It’s a Ferrari 360 which is already great to me, with a fun option that is not just rare but enjoyable and delivers the happy medium between coupe and convertible. Plus, it comes in a unique and classy color combination, with the icing o the cake being the three pedal manual.

What says you? Does the sunroof make you want to click that Bid button?
