What Price for Rebuilt?

·

So, here’s a really intriguing one to me: A 2012 Lexus LFA with………..a Rebuilt title.

Found on BringATrailer, this LFA has an interesting history and I’m curious what we all think of how it will impact the value.

First off, the car itself: It’s a Lexus LFA. Arguably one of, if not, THE greatest driving car of all time. These are true limited edition supercars, with only 500 made, and less than half coming to North America.

Second, it’s in a terrific color combo of orange over black, and is thought to be one of three.

Third, it was used a promotional vehicle celebrating the launch of the model, even appearing in an issue of Motor Trend. A very cool bit of history.

And diving more into the history is where it gets interesting. Checking the CarFax, this car has multiple entries for a Branded title. This began at the end of 2021 when a Flood title was issued out of Florida, and has since carried to the current selling dealer in Arizona.

So, no pun intended, but at least the car hasn’t been title washed. The history is loud and proud.

It’s noted in the description that the seats have been reupholstered in black, replacing the original beige coverings. Perhaps the car sat in some water and required this repair? Or, maybe it just looks better. I certainly think it does.

Speaking of looks, my goodness is the LFA a stunner. Hard to believe the car came out almost 14 years ago and was in development hell for 10 years prior to that. I say Lexus could release it now and people would think it was a new car.

Yeah, so this is one of the best for sale videos ever made.

The seller’s presentation of it deserves recognition. The seller, 911r, is a legend on BringATrailer and with good reason: his listings are always top notch. That carries through to this one, even with its challenging history.

Every nook and cranny of the car is photographed and it’s a joy to look through all the pictures. They really show everything and I believe reflects greatly on the seller to not appear shady. Peeling back the interior pieces to show the metal underneath is a smart move.

The LFA looks pristine and honestly, if you didn’t tell me it was Branded, I don’t think I could tell. It looks like a 14,000 mile LFA! If the car did indeed sit in water, it’s clearly had some major work done to clean it all up and get it back on the road.

So, now the fun question: What does it sell for? It’s No Reserve, so it’s going to change hands with someone.

LFAs in general are selling in the $800k-$900k area. The closest comp I could find was a 10,000 mile example for $785,000 that sold back in September, also on BringaTrailer.

With 4,000 more miles and the Branded title, what kind of hit does this take? My thought is $100k-200k, but I truly don’t know.

What do you think?
