It’s a Wrap!

·

So, here’s an interesting one from PCarMarket. It’s a 2014 BMW M6 Competition Package with a proper three-pedal manual transmission. That’s a bit of a mouthful, but what it means is that what we have here is a nearly 600 horsepower BMW grand tourer that requires you to row your own gears. Certainly not many of those around. This is one heck of a car.

But what really caught my attention is the green paint isn’t paint at all. It’s a wrap. The car actually came from the factory wearing black paint, specifically Black Sapphire Metallic.

So what does this mean for the final result? Well, as the auction has a day to go, that remains to be totally seen. It will be interesting to see how much the wrap affects the price, if any.

A manual M6, is a terrific, and certainly uncommon, car. The factory black over black isn’t terrible in itself, but I think the wrap looks really, really good. If the car was painted in say a BMW Individual British Racing Green, I think the price would be through the roof.

I generally don’t like wraps, as most of them just don’t look quite “right” to me. In addition to that, I have seen cars be wrapped due to paint or accident damage, a cheaper way than properly repainting the car.

However, this one I like. Green is a perfect color for a grand tourer, and thus suits this one well. The CarFax on this M6 shows no damage history , and the seller even provided pics of the car prior to wrapping. A nice bonus, and should hopefully give a buyer confidence that the paint underneath won’t require too much restoration should the wrap be taken off..

The rest of the car configuration looks great. In addition to the aforementioned Competition package, it also has the Executive and Driver Assistance Package, which ten years ago brought the original sticker to an eyewatering $130,625 (175,569.83 in today’s dollars)!

It’s certainly going to hammer for a lot less than that, and I eagerly await to see how much. At the time of writing there is 18 hours to go, so there is still time to bid and make this green machine yours.
