$42,750 Honda Element!

·

Welp, someone on BringATrailer just bought a 2004 Honda Element for $42,750, which is a new record for a Honda Element. These are all words I never thought I would write.

But that is correct. This past Thursday, in a No Reserve auction, ending in the middle of the day no less, an extremely low mileage 2004 Honda Element hammered at $42,750.

In a world of Porsches, Ferraris, and mint Ford Old Body Style trucks, something like a Honda Element just doesn’t seem to fit in, yet here we are, and I think it’s surprisingly cool.

When new, these cars were sold as fun, active lifestyle vehicles, featuring rubber floors for easy cleaning, configurable seating, and plenty of storage for adventure related items. Check out this original brochure to see what I mean.

This particular one somehow managed to be largely adventure free, as it sports only 758 miles. How on earth does that happen? I have no idea, but it did, and now we have this time-capsule/unicorn of an Element.

The car is a second year model, in the higher specification EX trim, and wearing a fun Fuji Blue paint job. The interior and exterior condition is as you expect for what is essentially a brand new car: superb. It’s a perfectly great example of a…..2004 Honda Element.

I’m not ragging on the car, the seller or the buyer at all. On the contrary in fact. I’m amazed that such an Element in this condition even still exists, and there is a buyer and seller for it. And speaking of seller, I say a congratulatory “well sold” to them, as the Element was listed earlier last month on Marshall Goldman’s website for a reported $17,900. That is quite the profit.

“Well bought” might be debatable, but I do think with the right intention it can be applied. If bought as an investment, I’m not sure what kind of return it will bring, but I do think it would very fit well as part of a display in a car museum, maybe with some early-to-mid 2000s memorabilia around.

It’s sounds cliche, but part of the fun of this industry/hobby is seeing stuff come up that you normally wouldn’t expect to see, and this Element certainly fits the bill. What’s a car that you never expected to see? Tell us on the forum!
